Using machine learning and signal processing techniques to optimize immersive communications.
Immersive media technology aims at endowing any final user with an unprecedented sense of full immersion in virtual (or real-world) environments. In virtual reality (VR) applications, this is possible by projecting the user at the centre of the omnidirectional scene, which dynamically changes with the user interaction. This novel type of content (spherical one) and this novel way of consuming media contents (interactive communications) have raised novel challenges from the coding and streaming perspectives: large volume of data to be delivered, uncertainty on the portion of content that will be requested by the user, and ultra-low-delay constraints.
In this project, we aim at developing novel learning coding and streaming strategies to overcome these main limitations.
